With family portrait season approaching quickly, this was the perfect time to document 3 month old Harlyann with her family. Her joyful spirit shines in her photos. I have known her cute family for some time now and treasure my friendship with them. Kole and Kenneth have so much love for Harlyann. My heart melted when they wanted to make sure they would each have a picture holding her. Between her dad and brothers, I am positive she will not be able to date, like ever. Did I mention she has lashes for days and curled perfectly? She is the perfect mix of her cute family and has finally helped the boy to girl ratio! Check out some of our favorites! Moms- This is your time to get in the photos with your babies. I have been recently reminded in many ways, that life’s moments are precious. You are always behind the camera, documenting every step of your babies. Walls filled with photos of your precious little ones but where are you in these pictures? Your kids want to have you just the way you are, the way they know you. They don’t see the couple extra pounds you are worried about or the hair you’re not happy with. They love you just the way you are. They want memories of you with them. And Dads, this makes for a treasured Mother’s Day gift. Bookings are limited.
I sit here with so many things I want to say. Some of which I will not. Here it goes…..Photography is an investment. I believe it is both a wanted and needed investment but whether it may be having a session or putting food on the table, I am hoping you are choosing the latter of the two. I believe documenting once in a lifetime moments is important. However, because this is an investment, some may save up by cutting out daily Starbucks or frequent mall trips. Both of these add up quickly (I know because I am a daily Starbucks visitor) and these things last a few minutes to a couple of months. You do it because you know the images you will be saving up for is a lifetime investment, YOUR legacy. This treasured investment means more than anything you may have to go without. I want my photos to make you wish you could jump back in that photograph and be in that exact very moment. Custom Photography has so many benefits. The big one? 1:1 attention at your home or outdoor location where your child is allowed to be comfortable in their environment. As an artist I customize ideas, colors and props that are going to create a unique memory. Photography requires constant reinvestment. Whether it be reliable equipment, back-up equipment, props (setups easily begin at $250 and upward), staying up to date with software, website maintenance, vehicle repairs/gas, computers, advertising/marketing, workshops and most importantly camera maintenance. A common misunderstanding is to think that only the time during the session is involved. Here is a small glimpse of what goes into a session: planning and preparation, perhaps this may be the making a custom prop, packing up for the session and unloading, time spent editing, emailing, ordering and packaging, driving to the post office, time scouting locations, managing expenses and taxes. Easily 18-20 hours are spent for each session. So my main point of this is to ask you this: Why has it become acceptable to expect a professional photographer to work for less than minimum wage? Would you want your spouse to go to work and not bring home a paycheck? I am not sure when photography became a business of giving away free work but I have a family I provide for. My children are growing so fast. My time with them and being present for every moment of their childhood is my absolute number one, second is my business. Photography has been my passion for as long as I can remember, but I am not about to spend that time away from my children while working myself in a hole. With all this being said, I will be introducing new packages and pricing. Although my prices are changing, I hope my clients will continue to value my work, my time and understand where I am coming from as a mommy.
The beach is my absolute favorite place to shoot. Initially we were to have a late afternoon session but we needed to move it up. As most know, midday sun is not kind for photographs. Squinting, harsh shadows, blown out details, agghhhh the horror of it all! I knew our next best time was early morning. I know how hard that can be getting ready with kids in tow but they arrived calm and so BEAUTIFUL! I was ecstatic when I saw their color choices. Totally nailed it. The sun stayed behind the marine layer just as I hoped. And guess what?! It came out just as we finished! Thank you mother nature. Enjoy some highlights from this family’s session. ‘Til next time, Bryna xoxo
